Oral Pathology

A persons gum tissue is lined by a healthy pink tissue referred to as mucosa.  You or your dentist may reconize changes in the appearance of the tissue and refer you for evaluation.  Typically these lesions may appear white or red and may be painful, however any alteration of the normal appearance should warrant further evaluation.  We would recommend performing an oral cancer self-examination monthly and make note of any suspicious areas.  If you have any concerns or questions about possible pathologic process please don't hesitate to call for an appointment.

Things to check for:

- Any suspicious red or white areas

- New lumps or thickenings

- A sore area that fails to heal or bleeds easily
